The Adventure Begins....

Day 1 and a half... or something like that.... With a 14 hour time change it gets quite confusing! By the time we made it to the hotel it was almost 24 hours of traveling, we started out leaving our house by 9:00am and arrived in Hong Kong at 9:00 pm the next day.

And this is how it went.

We got to YYC w/ plenty of time to catch our flight.  And then it was delayed... We thought "no big deal" as we had about an hour and 15 minutes between our arrival in Vancouver and our flight out to Beijing ... but then it was delayed again.  Now we only had 50 minutes btwn flights, which still seemed acceptable.

~At YYC when things hadn't gotten too exciting yet~

By the time we were all boarded and had taken off the flight announcement was that we would make it to Vancouver by 1:45.... and our flight left for Beijing at 1:50, we had 5 minutes to make it to our gate.  Lockey approached the flight attendant as we saw a whack of people moving to the front of the plane at the end of our flight, assuming that they too, were in the same position as us.  He told her we were trying to catch a flight to Beijing and she basically yelled at him that "the flight will be there waiting for you".  So he sat back down.  As we disembarked the flight though, we were met w/ those little golf cart guys who were to take us to our next gate, but as we very quickly learned, everyone else was flying to Beijing w/ Air Canada, and these guys wouldn't take us to our Air China gate (which seemed a little ridiculous as it was still Air Canada's fault we were missing our next flight even if we weren't connecting to Air Canada, as well as the fact that we needed to get to D66, and they were going to D65...) so we booked it... And I don't mean we jogged, we RAN, it was a full on sprint to try to make it to our gate, (I may have almost run over a skipping toddler on the moving sidewalk... I yelled "excuse me" first!) just hoping that maybe they were delayed or possibly even waiting for us?  But that would be too good to be true, and when we arrived at our gate (LONG before any of those golf carts might I add)  the sign said DEPARTED... and I deflated right on the spot... We did end up on that Air Canada flight the next gate over though, w/ in 5 minutes of going to the gate and asking to be put on so we wouldn't miss our next connecting flight to Hong Kong out of Beijing. We like the Air Canada flights though b/c you can pick your own movies and they're free! (Small things that make me happy).  The fellow at the desk assured us that our bags were going to be on their way to Hong Kong, but that they didn't have time to put them on our flight, (so all of the times I have packed extra clothes in my carry on and never needed them, has now paid off, as today I will be lounging at the pool in my swimsuit that I brought in my carryon... And don't worry, I made sure that Lockey had some extras in his bag too) So we made a claim at the bag enquiry desk when we got into Hong Kong last night and perhaps we will have our bags by the time we are off to Phuket tonight?  They've got approx 10 hours left to get those bags to us, or this will get a little more complicated as we will be moving around the islands in Thailand.  So cross your fingers for us!

~ On the tarmac in Beijing, getting on our flight to Hong Kong~

We are looking forward to the next leg of the trip.  We fly out of Hong Kong tonight to go to Thailand, where we will stay for a day in Phuket and then off to some more islands!  But more on that later!

Hope you are all well, and that you enjoy our blog, hopefully we will have some more exciting times than just trying to catch flights! :)  And we'll try to post pictures as we get them too.
