On our last night in HK we decided that it was necessary to have Dim Sum again! It was fabulous, I’ve never tasted better spring rolls in my life! Oh and of course I was loving my beef buns again. And Lockey loved his glutinous rice balls w/ black sesame paste... seriously, it’s called glutinous rice....
Afterwards we went on our regular walking route to look at the lights from the harbour and to marvel at the city that we lived in...

This is a pebble walk, usually used by elderly Chinese people, they would take off their shoes and put bags over their feet and walk really slowly along the protruding pebbles... it actually hurt! |
We checked out of our apartment in HK on Dec 3rd. We went for a walk around our neighbourhood and took some pictures of everything that we see on a daily basis.... even the view from our window! Even though our apartment was teeny tiny.... only 3 steps from the bed to the toilet w/ only 1 sink to speak of (bathroom and kitchen sink combined) we will leave it with fond memories. Whenever we travelled somewhere it was always nice to return to our hard, less than double bed with our pantry shelf right above us while we slept and Leonard the lizard keeping watch out for bugs.

View onto Queens Road West from our stair well. |
This was the first floor, these old folks played majong with their door open all day long every day. (Or ate rice) |
at the door of our apartment building... classy! |
Chillin outside the door of our apartment building. Construction next door (it used to be a Thai restaurant). Our window didn't face the street which was nice! |
Loud construction that would wake us up all the time... they worked the oddest hours, like 9 pm on a Sunday night? also notice that none of them are wearing any safety gear. |
Queens Road West. We shopped at international, and there was an escalator up to the groceries and Asian escalators go really fast, so when you had arms full of groceries it was an adventure! |
We were always disappointed when we reached the first floor going up to our apartment (there was no elevator and we were on the 3 floor... and you had to go up 3 flights of stairs before even reaching the first! It was lots of fun w/ groceries! |
Puccho's are FAB! Best chewy candy ever, blows starburst out of the water. |
View from our little window, all the old men gather to play Majong (kind of like dominos but w/ pictures) |
We will miss the Harbour, and the only patch of grass that was anywhere near us, even though only half of the circle was ever open to sit on (they were always doing maintenance on the other half, and the half that was open would switch every couple of weeks). But this was where I would run at night, and where Lockey and I would have picnics.

This fire truck is trying to make it's way into traffic and the bus and truck won't let him in... |

Fire Station on the way to the harbour |
We’ll miss the view of the city from the harbour. It always made us feel a sense of awe thinking that we lived in one of the coolest cities in the world. All of the lights at night, and the helicopters and ferries always coming into the ferry terminals.
The area we lived in (Sheung Wan) was known for it's dried fish, the area reaked of fish, and it was especially bad when you walked (or ran) by it on the street. They would just put it out on the sidewalk to dry too. Lockey and I like to get each other a "scent" (cologne, or perfume) on our trips so when we smell them it takes us back to our trip, but we just couldn't decide on any for this trip, but I'm sure if we ever smell dried fish again it will take us right back to the streets of Sheung Wan.
Hong Kong was a great city, and we are so lucky to have had the experience of living in this city. Zaijian Hong Kong, we will remember our times there fondly!
Trams and construction on the way to the harbour... yes that is bamboo scaffolding, and they are building the IBIS hotel. |
This was where we got our laundry done after our first terrible experience, they did a better job, but it's not the same as doing your own! |
Zaijian Hong Kong! Off to Fiji! |
